We are absolutely delighted to share some very special news: Seaview Apartments has been named joint winner of the first Great British Self-Catering Family Business – Wales award for 2026.

The award is part of the Great British Self-Catering Awards, run by the Professional Association of Self-Caterers UK, and recognises family-run businesses that have stood the test of time, with generations working together and passing knowledge forward.

For us, that description feels very close to home.

Our family’s connection with holidays in Broad Haven goes back more than six decades.

The story began at Millmoor Farm, originally owned by the family. When the local council purchased much of the farmland to build housing for the growing village, the family retained two fields. Those fields became Broad Haven Caravan Park, marking the start of a holiday accommodation business that would grow and evolve over the years.

In the early 1980s, the now-redundant farm buildings were converted into self-catering cottages. Then, in the late 1980s, the family expanded further with the purchase of the Coach House and Rocksdrift House on the seafront, where Susie’s parents still live today.

At that time, the business became one of Wales’ largest independent operators in self-catering accommodation. Over the years, the family’s work in tourism has been recognised with awards including the Wales Tourist Board Gold Medal for Services to Tourism, a Prince of Wales Award, and runner-up in the British Airways Accessibility Award.

So to receive this new award in 2026 feels both exciting and deeply meaningful. It recognises not just what we do now, but the generations of work, care and commitment that came before.

Today, the business is run by Susie Mock, the third generation of the family, with support from her partner and sons.

Family businesses are often built on a mixture of tradition, instinct, hard work and the occasional “all hands on deck” moment. Ours is no different.

Some of the lessons have been passed down over many years: the importance of a warm welcome, attention to detail, clean and well-cared-for accommodation, and the belief that guests should feel looked after from the moment they arrive.

Other parts of the business have changed enormously.

Over recent years we have continued to modernise, including introducing online booking, improving our website, using digital tools to help with guest communication, and exploring new ways to make the booking and holiday experience smoother.

But we have tried to do this carefully. We don’t believe in adopting something just because it is shiny and new. Technology has to serve a purpose. For us, that purpose is simple: it should make things easier, clearer or better for our guests.

That point was mentioned by PASC when they told us about the award, and it meant a great deal to us. Sustainable growth and thoughtful technological adaptation are not always the loudest parts of running a family holiday business, but they are increasingly important ones.

Another important part of our story is sustainability — not as a slogan, but as a long-term way of thinking.

We have introduced solar panels, EV charging, easier recycling for guests, and more environmentally considerate approaches to the outdoor spaces around us. We also make a conscious effort to support local producers and businesses wherever possible.

That includes the small things guests often notice: local products, practical information, recommendations and the everyday encouragement to enjoy Pembrokeshire in a way that supports the area as well as the visitor.

Broad Haven is not just where our business is based. It is home.

That makes a difference to how we run things. We care about local employment, local suppliers, the wider village, and the experience guests have while they are here. Many of our guests return year after year, and some families have been staying with us for decades. That loyalty is something we never take for granted.
